Frequently Asked Questions

Guidance for practitioners, pharmacists, dispensers, veterinarians, and patients on using the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program and accessing prescription monitoring data.

Accessing the system directly

The Alaska PDMP query system is reached through the state query portal. Practitioner and pharmacist access is handled through the program’s direct query site, and patient registration and requests are handled at the patient portal listed below.

How do I access the system directly?

Practitioner and pharmacist queries use the Alaska PDMP query page at akpdmp-ph.hidinc.com/akappl/bdakpdmq/pmqquery.html. This site itself stopped accepting queries for the Alaska PDMP as of 12:01 AM January 25, 2016.

Patients should visit https://alaska.pmpaware.net/login/ for registration and patient requests. You may have to cut and paste the address into your browser.

How do I retrieve a password?

For help recovering credentials or passwords, contact the HID Help Desk at 855-263-6404, or e-mail technical assistance at akpdmp-info@alaskapdmp.com. Administrative questions can be directed to the Program Manager, Brian Howes, at 907-269-8404.

Where can I find substance abuse resources?

Information on substance abuse resources is provided for practitioners and pharmacists who need referral information for patients. For assistance finding the right resource, contact the program office at 907-269-8404 or akpdmp@alaskapdmp.com.

What are the details for dispensers?

The Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program serves as the state's central repository for information about controlled substance prescriptions, dispensing, and patient medication histories. Practitioners, pharmacists, dispensers, veterinarians, and patients each interact with the program through dedicated portals and direct query sites, and the FAQ section explains how each group should sign in, register, and request access. Because the system routes different user types to separate entry points, understanding which portal applies is the first step toward obtaining accurate, timely prescription monitoring data.

Accessing the system typically involves navigating a state query portal, where practitioner and pharmacist queries are handled through the program's direct query site, while patient registration and request functions are managed separately through a patient-facing portal. The FAQ walks through this navigation in plain language and offers practical guidance for anyone who is unsure where to begin. It also notes that recent transitions have introduced changes to how data is collected and loaded, so a brief period of delay may occur after data is transferred into the system before complete results become available.

For those gathering information outside the query tools, the program offers assistance resources for common technical difficulties. Browser-based access is supported, and the FAQ includes tips for cutting and pasting content into fields, along with notes about accepting queries, clearing search criteria, and other interface behaviors that can affect how results are displayed. Guidance is organized by role, acknowledging that a prescriber, a dispensing pharmacist, a veterinarian, and a patient all view and interpret prescription monitoring information with different purposes and priorities in mind.

Beyond the mechanics of registration and querying, the FAQ addresses questions that frequently arise for both professional and public users. Concerns about the timeliness of loaded data, the distinction between direct access and request-based access, and the proper handling of query results are all covered. The program is operated with support from the vendor organization involved in its design, and the page points readers toward further guidance and technical assistance options when a question falls outside the standard help material provided here.
